On July 19, 2023, the Kangaroo Court came to order in the matter of The Town Of Farragut vs Sean Murphy on an alleged sign violation on his private property. After a complaint was received from a Realtor and 35 trips to the property by Farragut’s Code Enforcer, a citation was issued.

The Murphy’s never received a copy of the email sent by the Realtor complainant stating a sale was lost due to the disparaging sign on Sean’s property. Nor did the Town of Farragut investigate whether or not the complaint was legitimate. Turns out the ONLY house for sale within sight of the yard art sold in February of 2023, at least 2 months prior to the erecting of the sign.

The lack of evidence is astounding. The sign was never measured by the Code Enforcer, neither of the complainants appeared in court to verify their claims and the ‘Parcel’ sign statute didn’t apply.

This seems to be a clear constitutional violation of the right to free speech because of the bruised egos of a few Farragut politicians.
